Whenever anything is done to the ear, be it using cotton buds, ear syringing, cleaning with a probe and headlight or Ear Microsuction there are always risks. Those risks include hearing loss, tinnitus, trauma to the ear canal or eardrum, perforation of the eardrum and infection. Watch our video to find out more:
The risks are all very uncommon and we feel that, of all the techniques available, Ear Microsuction is the safest and most effective way to clean wax from the ear canal.
Most of our clinics are led by our highly trained and experienced Nurse Practitioners, however, if you would like to see a specific consultant please call Alex, our Practice Manager on 03455 27 27 27. She will be able to discuss this further with you and see what arrangements can be made for you.
Unfortunately, during the current pandemic, we ask that you attend your appointment alone unless it is absolutely necessary for someone to attend with you.
Yes please, if you are able to use some Olive Oil drops in your ears for at least three days before your appointment it will help to soften the wax. This makes it easier for us to remove it all and makes the treatment more comfortable for you. If you need to see us urgently or there is a reason you are unable to use ear drops in your ears, please contact us for further advice.

Sometimes if the wax is mainly in the outer part of the ear canal we can remove it with small scoops, a fine probe or pick it out with tiny forceps. If you would rather we tried this before the suction machine please ask.
Not usually, however, it can be noisy and your ear canal skin is sensitive so we do everything we can to avoid touching it with the suction end.
If you have had a lot of wax removed, it can sometimes leave the ear sensitive to cold weather and winds, so is advisable to keep the ear protected.
Wax often re-accumulates and many people like to have their ears cleaned on a regular basis. Typical time intervals are every 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. Of course, any time interval that suits you can be arranged.
We at Just Ears Clinic try to provide the best possible care and experience for patients who use our service.
If for any reason you are unhappy about the care you have received or would like to bring to our attention any aspect of our service that can be improved we would like to hear from you. Please email our Practice Manager at alex.elliott@justears.co.uk or call us on 03455 27 27 27.

Definitely, microsuction is the safest way to clean your ear because it is performed under direct vision through the microscope, which gives us a magnified view of what is going on. Ear syringing should be avoided if you have had previous surgery on your ears.
For cancellations, if 48 hours’ notice is provided, we are happy to refund full clinic fee, unfortunately if less notice is given a refund is not possible because of the difficulty in filling clinic slots at short notice.
If on examination there is no wax blocking your ears, we will reduce our fee to £59, which covers the cost of your consultation and examination. We will also be able to give you advice, arrange a private prescription (if necessary) or refer you to the necessary ENT provider or back to your GP.
