If you have any questions that haven’t been mentioned, please don’t hesitate to email admin@justears.co.uk and one of our team will be able to help, and we will then add to our website to help any other future patients with the same queries. Let’s dive into the FAQs and make your experience with us as smooth as possible!

Microsuction FAQ’s

Do you only remove wax with a sucker? Can you remove by another method?

Sometimes if the wax is mainly in the outer part of the ear canal we can remove it with small scoops, a fine probe or pick it out with tiny forceps. If you would rather we tried this before the suction machine please ask.

Does it hurt?

Not usually, however, it can be noisy and your ear canal skin is sensitive so we do everything we can to avoid touching it with the suction end. If you have had a lot of wax removed, it can sometimes leave the ear sensitive to cold weather and winds, so is advisable to keep the ear protected.

Does wax come back?

Wax often re-accumulates and many people like to have their ears cleaned on a regular basis. Typical time intervals are every 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. Of course, any time interval that suits you can be arranged.

I had my eras cleared, but i’m still having trouble with them, what should i do?

We are very sorry to hear that. Please call the office team on 03455 27 27 27 to discuss any concerns you have and we can look at how we can help you.

I’ve had ear problems and surgery in the past, is microsuction safe for me?

Definitely, microsuction is the safest way to clean your ear because it is performed under direct vision through the microscope, which gives us a magnified view of what is going on. Ear syringing should be avoided if you have had previous surgery on your ears.

What if no wax is found?

If our examination determines that you do not require treatment and you have paid for both ears (£89), our fee will be reduced to £69 which covers the cost of your consultation and examination and a £20 refund will be issued to you. If you have paid for one ear (£69) unfortunately no refund will be issued. Although the appointment time for both instances is shorter, we still have costs associated with the appointment and we are unable to fill the appointment slot at short notice. We will also be able to give you advice, and refer you to the necessary ENT provider or back to your GP.

Your appointment FAQ’s

Are there any risks with microsuction?

Whenever anything is done to the ear, be it using cotton buds, ear syringing, cleaning with a probe and headlight or Ear Microsuction there are always risks. Those risks include hearing loss, tinnitus, trauma to the ear canal or eardrum, perforation of the eardrum and infection. The risks are all very uncommon and we feel that, of all the techniques available, Ear Microsuction is the safest and most effective way to clean wax from the ear canal.

Can my partner/ friend come with me?

Yes of course. We are more than happy for someone to attend the appointment with you.

Do i have to use ear drops before i come to see you?

Yes please, if you are able to use some Olive Oil drops in your ears for at maximum of 3 days prior to your appointment it will help to soften the wax. This makes it easier for us to remove it all and makes the treatment more comfortable for you. If you need to see us urgently or there is a reason you are unable to use ear drops in your ears, please contact us for further advice.

Do you have disabled access?

The majority of our clinics have disabled access.

Guidance on complaints or concerns about care

We at Just Ears Clinic try to provide the best possible care and experience for patients who use our service. If for any reason you are unhappy about the care you have received or would like to bring to our attention any aspect of our service that can be improved we would like to hear from you. Please email our Practice Manager at alex.elliott@justears.co.uk or call us on 03455 27 27 27.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the consultation, microsuction treatment for both ears and after care advice is £89.00, payable either online prior to your appointment or by credit or debit card at the time of booking your appointment. (Please note we are unable to accept cheques or cash, unless by prior arrangement). If you have paid for both ears and on examination there is no wax blocking your ears, we will reduce our fee to £69, which covers the cost of your consultation and examination and you will receive a £20 refund. If our microsuction practitioner feels that it is necessary for you to return for a follow up appointment, this appointment will be £69.

What if i need to cancel?

For cancellations, if 48 hours’ notice is provided, we are happy to refund full clinic fee or reschedule your appointment free of charge. Unfortunately, if less notice is given a refund for half the price of the treatment will be given due to the difficulty in filling clinic slots at short notice.
